Professional development for academic staff
in the context of university internationalisation

Internationalisation@Home of HHU Internationalisation encompasses not only the integration of international perspectives into the curriculum and institutional structure, but also targeted professional development for lecturers and staff.
To integrate international and intercultural skills sustainably into everyday university life, and particularly into research and teaching, HHU offers specific professional development programmes and supports staff in undertaking training with external providers. The aim of these measures is to empower university staff to actively incorporate international dimensions into their work and thus promote a vibrant international atmosphere on campus – regardless of their own experience of studying or working abroad.

The International DAAD Academy (iDA) is a division of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and can therefore draw on the expertise of DAAD colleagues both in Germany and abroad. It is also an academy, meaning it focuses on the transfer of knowledge and the acquisition of skills. Its aim is to support German universities as a reliable partner in the design and implementation of their internationalisation processes, tailored to their specific needs.

HHU supports and funds participation in iDA courses, which can be selected individually. Topics include, amongst others:

  • Basic knowledge of internationalisation, trends and framework conditions
  • Counselling international students, intercultural competence
  • Impact-oriented planning and management of internationalisation projects
  • Digitalisation and sustainability
  • Monitoring, evaluation and quality management
  • Legal aspects
  • Academic language courses
  • International higher education marketing
